Identify more than a name
A machine name alone may not explain its role. A useful inventory retains its type, identifier, hosting node and organization. This structure distinguishes a QEMU VM from an LXC container and helps locate the same object as its environment changes.
Enrich with available observations
Available services and versions complete the resource view. They help explain what runs and prepare useful checks. Coverage depends on collection, granted permissions and available sources; missing information does not prove a service is absent from a machine.
Connect inventory and history
An inventory provides a starting point for investigation. From a resource, look up its changes to understand how its state evolved. Connecting inventory and events avoids separately looking up the VMID, node and operations for every intervention.
Check collection coverage
Before considering an inventory complete, check its sources and freshness. A node with delayed observations should remain identifiable. ProxTrace exposes coverage to put the inventory in the actual context of collection.
